Strata, previously known as X-331, is the first hop variety from Indie Hop's breeding program at Oregon State University in Corvallis. It was developed in 2009 from an open pollinated Perle hop found in an Oregon State experimental hop yard. Strata stands out due to its strong disease resistance, vigorous growth, and complex aroma profile, making it a top contender in its class. Strata is suitable for use in IPAs, Session IPAs, Pale Ales, and even lagers. It offers a variety of fruit flavors, both dried and fresh, complemented by a unique dried chili-cannabis-funk character without any undesirable diesel, machine oil, or catty notes. When added late in the brewing process, it brings out rounded tropical and bright fresh fruit flavors, while dry hopping accentuates grapefruit and cannabis notes. It also pairs well with roasted malts. All hops are sealed in bags that provide protection from oxygen, light, and moisture. They are flushed with nitrogen and stored at cold temperatures to maintain freshness. The resealable packages feature tear notches and zippers for convenient use.
