With 100kHz BW, 2.4MSa/s sampling rate and 4K memory, Hantek 1008C is beat up by general scopes in many specs, but offers numerous features that general scopes don't have for low frequency automotive testing:
1) 8 channels to test up to 8 signals simultaneously, wherein voltage of each channel is adjustable independently;
2) 78 types of automotive test functions (listed on the last 2 alternate images);
3) an interface with PC for larger display of traces and details that are hard to see on handheld scopes;
4) constant free updates of firmware downloadable on Hantek's site.
Since many causes for car issues share the same symptoms, a device on home project budget like 1008C is needed to drill down to the root cause of issues and saves the expense on replacing parts unnecessarily.
Compact and portable for repair shop, field work and maintenance trip, Hantek 1008C is widely used, and tutorial videos like Scanner Danner can be easily found on U.tube.
Besides, it works with Android via openscope or H-scope, and runs on OSX through virtual box or virtual machine.
Apart from 1 USB cable, 8 BNC-to-alligators and 1 HT25 secondary iginition probes, accessories inlude:
1) 1 HT201 20:1 attenuator for fuel injector and primary ignition waveform measurement, given 1008C has 8 inputs close together and doesn't scale high enough for most signals;
2) 1 HT30A to extend cable reach to most places.
Small caveats:
1. Get a specially disgned coil-on-plug extension lead to use with HT25 if needed;
2. At this budget, don't expect 1008C to qualify for an excellent automotive lab scope full of highend features.
