- Material - By adding 5-8% cobalt to a general 6542 high-speed steel thread plug tap, hand taps with cobalt can have higher hardness(67-68HRC) and precision, better wear resistance and toughness, and higher heat resistance. The surface is coated with TiCN (Dark Silver Black), which has higher hardness and better wear resistance than TiN coating (Gold).
