Although orthodox Islam does not utilize music, the Sufi mystics have always found music to be an important aid in attaining a mystic union with God. After a period of chanting, the celebrants begin to move, accompanied by, for example, a pair of double-reed "ghaitas" and a two-headed drum. Other instruments heard in this recording are the "gasba" (bamboo flute) and the "nira" (recorder). This is "authentic" music - faithfully recorded by Philip Schuyler.
